Aristoi Classical Academy earned its first State Champion title in Varsity Flag Football

Katy, TX – Aristoi Classical Academy earned its first State Champion title in Varsity Flag Football this past weekend.  Saturday’s championship game was played in Austin against IDEA Public Charter from Mission, TX.  The Griffins (12-0) wrapped up their undefeated season in excellent fashion with a 40-34 score over the IDEA Phoenix.

Aristoi’s Varsity Football Coach, BJ Sarver stated, “We knew this was going to happen.  These kids and their desire were just outstanding.  Watching how these guys came together was the best part of the season.  They gelled.  They came together as friends and as an outstanding team.  They always played up; they never let the competition drag them down.  They always knew how to play together and they did that consistently throughout the year.  It’s been a sincere pleasure to watch it happen.”

“Out of 41 teams in the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League, Aristoi is number one!” declared Aristoi Athletic Director, Kendrick Davis.  “I’m willing to put our kids against anybody.  In terms of character, no one can beat them.  They are the first to run the extra mile to get into condition; they are the first to open the door; they are the first to jump up and help out at any service project, from serving dinner to pulling tree stumps out of the ground.  It’s not a chore for them, they truly enjoy giving back and being a part of the community and something bigger than themselves.  They are outstanding kids.”

The team’s five seniors also serve as team captains:  Thomas Botond, Jude Heiliger, Tanner Rangel, Cameron Townsend, and Darius Thompson.  Coach Sarver reflected, “Four years ago, Darius, our quarterback, was brand new to the sport.  He’s now the best QB in the state.  And, Cameron worked on his speed and stamina and he’s on the State All-Star Team.  These kids went after it – each and every one of them.  They all wanted this championship and they worked hard individually and as a team to make it happen.  I am so proud of them.  Over the course of the year, this team became a brotherhood. We aren’t the strongest or the biggest, but we have the best stamina and character, and that has made all the difference.”
