Olson Statement Opposing Disaster Relief Bill

Washington, DC — Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 3702, a flawed disaster recovery bill:

“The intent of this bill is laudable, and I respect my colleague Rep. Al Green for working to address current flaws in disaster recovery efforts. However, in its current form, this bill does not address key flaws in the current CDBG-DR program and would result in disparity in federal housing elevation standards, blocks the use of FEMA funds for Army Corps projects to help prevent future flooding and other provisions that impact community efforts to rebuild. While I oppose this bill in its current form, I hope that we can work to improve it as it works through the Senate process for the benefit of all our communities.”
