KARE Monthly Meeting

On September 25, Katy Area Retired Educators (KARE) held their monthly meeting with guest speaker Constable Ted Heap, Precinct 5. Constable Heap shared information about

“Community Programs and the Role of the Constable”. Additionally, special recognition was awarded to outgoing HD 28 Representative Dr. John Zerwas from KARE and

Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA). KARE’s Book Project also had their first book donation to Mark A. Chapman YMCA on Katy Main Street.

Spotlighting KARE’s volunteer service, KARE members were thanked for their 2018 volunteer hours totaling 38,855.75 hours for a monetary value of $959,348.47.

KARE’s next meeting will be held on October 16 with Dani DeLay Garcia, former Katy ISD teacher. This meeting will feature “Time for Travel”.    All public school employees who retired under the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) are welcome to attend and bring a retired educator, friend or neighbor who is not a current member.  KARE represents anyone who has worked in a school district and retired through the TRS. This includes all employees from custodian to superintendent. Others interested in supporting the goals of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) are welcome to join as associate members.

KARE meetings are held at 11:30 a.m. at the Leonard E. Merrell Center, Room 144, located at the West Entrance. For more information about the Katy Area Retired Educators check out its website at http://www.localunits.org/KARE/ .
