Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital Earns National Recognition for Quality and Safety

KATY, Texas (Sept. 23, 2019) – Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital was one of three Memorial Hermann Health System hospitals to earn national recognition as a top performer for excellence in delivering high-quality care by the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking at the 2019 Vizient Connections Education Summit in Las Vegas on Sept. 19.

Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital received the 2019 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award for Complex Care Medical Centers and ranked sixth nationally of 82 participating hospitals in that category.

“This incredible award recognizes the commitment that our employee partners, physician partners, and volunteer partners make every day to providing safe, high quality patient care,” said Sr. Vice President and Memorial Hermann Katy CEO Heath Rushing. “As we continue to grow and expand services on our campus, our workforce continues to provide the quality of care that has become a hallmark of Memorial Hermann Katy. Through strong collaboration, we consistently aim to be the difference for every patient, every person, every day.”

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center received the 2019 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award for Academic Medical Centers, and ranked seventh of 93 participating academic medical centers. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center received the 2019 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award for Large, Specialized Complex Care Medical Centers and ranked fifth nationally among 79 participating institutions in that category.

“This is an incredible honor and I am proud of our entire workforce and affiliated physicians who made this recognition possible,” said Memorial Hermann President and CEO David L. Callender, MD. “We’re dedicated to improving the health of the communities we serve and our success is dependent on the quality of every aspect of care.”

The Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The recognition period is for work spanning July 2018 through June 2019.

This year, 349 participating hospitals were segmented into four cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study: comprehensive academic medical centers, large, specialized complex care medical centers, complex care medical centers and community hospitals. The ranking measured performance based on safety, mortality, clinical effectiveness, efficiency and patient centeredness.

“Leading hospitals across the country effectively use clinical, cost and operational data to engage their teams in driving improvements in patient care,” said Bharat Sundaram, president and chief operating officer for Vizient. “This award recognizes Memorial Hermann’s performance-driven culture for achieving the highest quality and patient-centered outcomes.”
