Olson Statement On HUD Issuance Of Federal Rules For Mitigation Funds

Sugar Land, TX—Rep. Pete Olson issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released mandatory rules for the use of more than $4.3 billion in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds for mitigation projects to be distributed by the Texas General Land Office (GLO):

“In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, my Houston colleagues and I have worked tirelessly on recovery and providing critical resources to protect our region from the inevitable next flood event. A vital component of that is the federal disaster recovery funds needed for flood mitigation projects. Eighteen months after Congress allocated disaster recovery funds, I’m glad that HUD has finally issued the needed guidance so these pending projects can be completed. This allows GLO to distribute more than $4.3 billion for mitigation projects that will protect our communities and make them whole once more. While I wish the guidance had been issued sooner, this will allow our region to get to work on needed flood protection.”
