Sen. Cruz: Trump Administration Made Right Decision To Withdraw From Flawed Nuclear Treaty With Russia

Applauds the administration’s withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the expiration of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

“This treaty has fallen far short and far outlived its intended purpose,” Sen. Cruz said. “The Trump administration made the right decision when they announced the United States was withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with Russia, and I applaud the administration for implementing that decision. The INF constrained our ability to build the weapons that we need for our national security, leaving us at a disadvantage to rivals such as Russia, which was in material breach of the treaty, and China, which was not constrained by the treaty at all.”
