Just in Time for Summer, Katy ISD Begins its CTE STEM Maker Camps

KATY [June 6, 2019] – Summer fun has begun and for our media partners who are looking for a colorful feature story to cover during this off-school season, Katy Independent School District invites you to join our incoming 6th through 8th grade students during their Career Technical (CTE) STEM Maker Summer Camps.

As part of its fifth annual summer camp sessions, the CTE Department supplies a meaningful program, with classes taught by certified CTE teachers, focused on aerodynamics, structures, soft robotics, lathe turning, food science, simple machines among other activities.  Campers will participate in half day sessions and will work alongside former student volunteers on various activities.

“The program has grown from its first year of 80 students, in just one week, to now 256 students during two weeks,” said CTE Instructional Specialist Stephen Bennett.  “The program has added activities that students might come across during their junior high level CTE courses and provides a great avenue for growth and development for this age group,” added Bennett.
