Katy ISD Students Participate in First Time Ever Plein Air Painting Competition

KATY [October 18, 2018] – Katy Independent School District students step out of their classrooms and into mother nature to experience a different kind of painting and drawing experience known as “plein air”, a French expression for “in the open air”.  For the first time, 25 Katy ISD students will visit Willow Fork Park to create an inspirational on-site art piece which showcases the beauty of outdoor scenes.

“Working in an outdoor painting site allows the students to capture the true details of the landscapes they live in,” said Assistant Director of Fine Arts Mitzi Jones.  “Plein air painting is a growing trend among young students, allowing them the opportunity to see how their masterpieces come to life,” added Jones.
