HeartGift Welcomes Patient from Honduras to Houston

Houston, TX (77030) (October 3, 2018) On Thursday September 20th Jose Gabriel, a two year old boy from Honduras, underwent lifesaving heart surgery at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.  This surgery corrected the congenital heart defect he was born with, Ventricular Septal Defect, Aortic Septal Defect and Patent Ductus Arteriosus.

Jose Gabriel was able to travel from his home in Catacamas Olancho Honduras to Houston TX via the HeartGift program.  HeartGift provides lifesaving heart surgery to children from around the world where specialized medical treatment is either scarce or nonexistent.

Jose Gabriel has been in Houston recovering from his heart repair and is scheduled to return to Honduras on October 11th.  His stay and medical care is possible because of volunteers and donors in our community.  Jose Gabriel and his Mother, Kerlya Gabriela are being hosted by the McCorkle family of Tomball (77377.)

“The generosity of the Houston community is amazing, providing medical partnerships, financial donations, a host home and volunteers to assist with translation.”   Rachael Wright, Executive Director.
