Washington, DC –Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) invites TX-22 middle and high school students to participate in the 2018 Congressional App Challenge. Participants will create a software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet or computer devices. Since 2015, 8,800 students across 43 states have created over 1,150 apps. This competition is designed to challenge student’s creativity and encourage their participation in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
“In the growing and changing field of technology, innovative computer applications are a critical component of our future,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “The Congressional App Challenge is a fun opportunity to encourage the next generation of students to get involved in critical STEM fields, while allowing them to learn, create and present an app that is uniquely theirs. I encourage our TX-22 students to tap into their creativity and join the competition.”
All middle and high school students who live in TX-22 are eligible to apply. Students can submit an app individually or as part of a team. The winning app will be displayed in the US Capitol Building and on two websites, which can be found here and here. The first place winner or team will also be recognized by Olson and will receive Amazon Web Services Credits.
