Katy Bar Association Announces Writing Contest Winners

April 5, 2018

The Katy Bar Association is proud to announce Oscar Hung of the British International School as the winner of the 2018 Katy Bar Association Law Day writing contest. Each year, the Katy Bar Association reviews numerous essays from Katy area students and selects three winners. In addition, the Katy Bar Association submits the top essay to the State Bar of Texas for its statewide Law Day essay writing contest

Katy Bar Association’s First Vice President and Chair of the Scholarship and Education Committee, Alex Hunt added, “We are very proud to submit Oscar’s essay to the State Bar of Texas’ Law Day writing contest. The accomplishments of each of our winners is a great reflection of the work being done in Katy by students, teachers, and administrators.”

The State Bar of Texas Law Day competition theme for 2018 is the Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom. This theme allowed the students to contemplate the constitutional purpose of the separation of powers and how it affects our three branches of government. The students addressed the theme in an original 500-word essay.

The Katy Bar Association winners will receive scholarships to assist in paying their future educational costs. The first-place winner is Oscar Hung from the British International School of Houston. Oscar will receive a $1,500 scholarship. The second-place winner is Jacob Schababerle from Taylor High School. Jacob will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The third-place winner is Noah Key from Taylor High School. Noah will receive a $500 scholarship.

These top three students have also been invited to attend the Katy Bar Association’s next monthly meeting to be honored and introduced to Katy area attorneys.
