Sid Puranik, a senior at Tompkins High School in Katy, won a $500 college scholarship on Jan. 9 in an oratorical contest in Pasadena sponsored by Texas District 22 of The American Legion. He’s pictured with Dan King, who was in charge of the contest, and Jim McGuire, vice commander of Post 164 in Katy. Sid won the Post 164 contest and a $250 scholarship on Nov. 28. The next level of competition will be the 2nd Division contest on Jan. 20, also in Pasadena.
