Ethics statement is part of Judge Hidalgo’s pledge to boost transparency, accountability

Harris County, TX – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo today released an ethics statement that outlines the steps she will take to handle conflicts of interests and avoid any undue influence during her term.

“Government transparency and accountability are essential to building trust between elected officials and the residents we were elected to serve,” said Judge Hidalgo. “We can never forget that public service is a public trust.”

In order to avoid the appearance of conflict, Judge Hidalgo is recusing herself from any matter before the Harris County Commissioners Court where a conflict of interest may exist, even if a recusal is not required by law.

Judge Hidalgo will also refuse any campaign donations from individuals or companies that currently do or seek to do business with Harris County. She will require donors to certify that they don’t have a contract and will not be seeking a contract with Harris County within the fiscal year.
