Alzheimer’s Association Walk To End Alzheimer’s® Raises Over $13000 In Katy / West Houston  

Participants Raise Critically Needed Awareness and Funds for Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research

KATY, TX, September 24, 2018 – More than 1000 residents from the Katy / West Houston area joined the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. Participants raised more than $130,000 to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs.

“Our Walk participants, volunteers, sponsors, staff and the Katy / West Houston community went above and beyond to make this year’s Walk a huge success,” said Fredy Batres, Outreach Specialist of the Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter. “Congratulations to the top teams for their stellar fundraising efforts. Together, we are showing the more than 140,000 people estimated to be living with Alzheimer’s in Southeast Texas that we care and we will never give up in the fight to end this disease.”

Team “Forget Me Not” was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising over $9,000. Other top fundraising teams include: “Parkway Place” ($7,909) and “Lou’s Crew” ($6,534)

In Texas alone, there are more than 380,000 people living with the disease and 1.4 million caregivers.  In the United States, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
