Learn Sewing Basics For Holiday Projects At Library Program

Learn the basics of sewing and create handmade, holiday-themed projects at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library on Thursdays, October 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Sew with Sophie: Hand-Sewing for the Holidays” is a 4-part, hands-on workshop. Different skills and holiday projects will be introduced each week. Participants can choose to attend individual sessions or the whole series.

Sophia Adobo will provide basic instruction on sewing techniques, including hand-sewing, machine-sewing, pinning, reading a traditional pattern, taking measurements, and more. Holiday-themed projects, which will help participants build confidence in their new skills, can become thoughtful gifts for families and friends.

Adobo is the owner of Sew with Sophie, which she founded in 2011. She received her undergraduate degree in fashion design from Texas Woman’s University, and her graduate degree in fashion from Kent State University. She has also been a machine-sewing instructor at The Handwork Studio in Washington, DC, and Dallas.

Materials will be provided, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library. Samples of the library’s instructional books, crafting magazines, and websites on the various sewing arts will be available.

This workshop is intended for adults and Young Adults aged 14 and above.

The workshop is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Events,” select “Cinco Ranch Branch Library,” and find the program.
