RICHMOND, TX – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) on Saturday welcomed a group of 30 high school students to serve on his 2018-2019 Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC). The CYAC is a group of high school students selected to meet with Congressman Olson and other community and civic leaders throughout the school year to discuss various issues. The first meeting focused on introducing students to the legislative process. The Council meets six times within a school year and includes a roundtable discussion on current events, as well as learning the pivotal role of lawmakers, experts and citizens in a democracy.
“This is the eighth year that students have participated in this council,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “Each year I continue to be impressed by their knowledge and interest in the legislative process. The CYAC provides a forum for our students to learn about the legislative process, while also providing critical insight into the issues that are most important to our next generation of leaders. I’m excited to see what these bright students accomplish this year.”
