The Office of Ted Heap, Harris County Constable Precinct 5

Safe Driving In School Zones

With many of our schools starting up this week, Constable Ted Heap wants to remind all drivers to take extra care around school zones and crosswalks throughout Precinct 5. There is nothing more important to us or our residents than protecting our children. Beginning Wednesday, as schools get back underway, Constable Heap will have more than 100 deputies on our neighborhood streets, dedicated to watching out for our kids’ safety. We remind you to take caution when passing through school zones. Those strict speed limits are there for a reason and we will be closely monitoring traffic in those areas to make sure school kids are safe. Put down your phone while driving near schools. It is illegal to text or talk on the phone while driving in school zones. Also, make sure to stop for school bus loading and unloading. Please review this illustration as a reminder of the specific laws designed to protect children getting on or off their buses. Thanks for your help with this. We want to make sure our children get to and from school safe and sound.
