The University Interscholastic League, which oversees Texas high school sports, placed Katy’s newest high school sports program in Class 5A this morning as part of its annual reclassification and realignment effort.

Paetow High School opened last fall. The Panthers debut their varsity sports program this fall.

Other teams in the District 10-5A, Division II, include Bryan Rudder, Cleveland, College Station A&M Consolidated, Huntsville, Montgomery, Montgomery Lake Creek, and Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated.

The UIL designates schools with enrollments of 2,190 and above as Class 6A. Schools with enrollments of 1,150-2,189 are designated as Class 5A.

The other seven Katy high schools—Cinco Ranch, Katy, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes, Taylor, and Tompkins—will remain in District 19-6A. Each of these teams will play four non-district football games this fall.

The other team in District 19, Strake Jesuit, was moved to District 23-6A, which comprises the Alief-area schools.
