Katy ISD Promotes Student Enrollment in Pre-Advanced Placement Courses

January 15, 2018 – Parents of Katy ISD fifth graders who will be attending junior high in 2018-2019 are invited to learn more about the Pre-AP and AP program.

Through an educational presentation, the District looks to provide an overview of the advanced academics in Katy ISD which will address commonly asked questions about student participation in Pre-Advanced Placement courses.  Information can be found on the GT and Advanced Academics website under the Quick Links Presentation tab, both in English and Spanish.

Katy ISD Pre-AP courses, offered during grades 6-10, are designed to prepare students to be successful in Advanced Placement (AP) course taken during high school.  These courses provide students the opportunity to engage in college-level studies with the option of taking the AP exam to possibly qualifying for college credit.  Research indicates that students who participate in an AP course are more likely to complete an undergraduate program, choose academically challenging majors in college and are prone to pursue an advanced degree.  Katy ISD offers AP courses in English, social studies, science, mathematics, languages other than English, computer science, music and art.

For questions about secondary course selection, contact your child’s junior high campus for informational events and to schedule appointments with academic counselors.  Information can also be found in the 2018-2019 Course Catalog.
