Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Houston’s premiere auditioned chorus for children will hold mid-winter auditions in early January. Students in grades 2 through 8 are encouraged to enroll.  There is no audition for children in grades 2 and 3 for the Prep Choir. The Concert Choir involves boys & girls in grades 4 though 8 and requires an audition.  Interested families should visit the Chorus’ website:  www.houstonchildren.org for audition information.

Houston’s delightful, small ambassadors to the world, the Houston Children’s Chorus is celebrating 28 years this season. Over 5,250 children have participated in Chorus activities since the founding in 1989. This incredible group of talented children represents every ethnic and socio-economic group in the greater Houston area. They perform over 40 concerts per year and have performed for the President of the United States on 32 occasions.  They are regularly featured in civic and cultural ceremonies for the City of Houston and the State of Texas.  They have presented concerts all over the world. Their versatility in being able to perform all types of music from Motown to Bach has endeared them to audiences all over the Texas, the United States, and the world.

Their favorite memories:  recording the Blue Bell Ice Cream commercial, performing with Josh Groban in the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Super Bowl, performing with Celine Dion in the old Compaq Center, performing for the World Economic Summit, and performing with Maureen McGovern and Tommy Tune for the Gala Opening of the Hobby Center.  Most recently the Chorus went Christmas caroling with Astro’s World Series MVP, George Springer.

Stephen Roddy is the Founder & Director of the Chorus.
