Sen. Cruz: Supplemental Funding Bill Takes Texas One Step Closer to Recovery

More funding will be necessary for Texas to recover and rebuild

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of the supplemental funding bill, and noted more funding will be necessary for Texas to recover and rebuild.

“Today’s supplemental funding bill that passed the Senate takes Texas one step closer to receiving the funds necessary to rebuild in the aftermath of Harvey’s devastation,” Sen. Cruz said. “But this level of funding does not come close to what will ultimately be required for our state to fully recover, and I am disappointed that the discussions we had in the Senate and with the administration to include an additional $18.7 billion in this bill, as requested in the Texas delegation’s letter to the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, were not addressed. I will continue pressing the administration to include these funds in the next supplemental bill and continue working with Sen. Cornyn, the Texas delegation and the Governor’s office to ensure that the Lone Star State receives the assistance it needs from the federal government. Together, we will recover and we will rebuild stronger and better than before.”
