Yesterday, Rep. Pete Olson hosted a human trafficking focus group to further raise awareness of this growing problem and gather community leaders to discuss options to combat it. The group informed Olson about their efforts to combat trafficking in Fort Bend County and helped discuss different avenues for continuing to raise awareness. At least two of the organizations have worked with teenagers (and younger) who were trafficked out of their schools in Fort Bend County. Olson let them know he will be hosting his rescheduled Human Trafficking Summit in January as part of Human Trafficking awareness month and briefed the organizations on how recent legislation will help protect victims of trafficking from criminalization as a result of their time in trafficking.
