SAN ANTONIO -This weekend, Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, the Alamo invites Texans and history enthusiasts of all ages to Cannon Fest, a free event exploring the cannon and artillery of the Texas Revolution.

The celebration will include four manned artillery displays, interactive drills for kids, photo ops, and living history demonstrations for all ages on the Alamo grounds. Visitors will also enjoy displays of the Alamo’s seven 1836 battle cannons, with a special appearance by the bronze 4-pounder, one of twelve cannon unearthed in downtown San Antonio in 1852.

“The 1836 Alamo Battle cannons are among Texas’ most treasured artifacts,” said Texas General Land Office Commissioner George P. Bush. “We are committed to ensuring long-term, extensive preservation and conservation of the Alamo’s historic buildings and artifacts. As champions of our state’s spirit of liberty, it’s up to us to ensure that these treasures of Texas’ fight for independence receive the care and honor they deserve so that future generations may visit, learn and remember.”

“Few historical battle sites have cannon that were used at the site during battle,” said Alamo CEO Doug McDonald. “The Alamo is fortunate to have seven of the 21 cannon that were present during the 1836 siege and battle. We look forward to sharing these incredible artifacts and the role they played in the Texas Revolution with visitors.”
