A Diabetes Conference will be presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Fort Bend County, Mamie George Community Center, Oak Bend Medical Center and Access Health. The Conference will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pmat Mamie George Community Center, 1111 Collins Road, Richmond.
Dr. Gildardo Ceballos of Oak Bend Medical Group will open the conference. DaShana Hall, LMSW, will discuss Coping with Chronic Disease. A pharmacist will also discuss diabetes medications. The conference will conclude with a demonstration of healthy recipes.
Dianne Gertson, County Family & Consumer Sciences Extension agent, states that diabetes is a huge issue, not only in Texas, but across the country. “The purpose of the conference is to encourage, educate, and enlighten individuals about the disease. Although there is no cure at this time, diabetes can be managed with diligence and consistency in making wise food choices, taking prescribed medications, participating in some sort of physical activity, and monitoring blood glucose,” she added.
Health screenings will be available at no cost from Noon – 1 pm. There is no cost to attend the Conference. Conference materials, snacks, goody bags and door prizes will be provided to the first 50 participants.
