A Labor Day Message from the Commissioners of the Texas Workforce Commission
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is committed to the success and prosperity of Texas workers, whose dedication contributes significantly to this great state’s economic success. Our workforce is resilient in times of need, strong in work ethic and as large and diverse as the state itself. We’ve seen this resilience among Texans who are reaching out to support one another as we recover from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Harvey. TWC and our local Workforce Solutions board partners are positioned to help through Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). Also, $10 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Labor is available to support dislocated workers with employment services to help those individuals impacted return to full employment as quickly as possible.
Additionally, to meet the increased need for processing unemployment insurance claims, TWC will be open this Labor Day Weekend and taking calls to assist disaster impacted individuals from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 2-4*.
Texas employers have created 293,400 jobs over the past year, highlighting the diversity of the Texas job market. TWC and the state’s 28 local workforce development boards which, with our service-providing partners, comprise Texas Workforce Solutions, work closely with the state’s economic development entities to create innovative workforce programs that help connect qualified job seekers with employers seeking skilled workers. The Texas Workforce Commission is dedicated to supporting the communities in which we serve, working with local leaders in the disaster affected areas to bring back businesses and their workforces to rebuild, and we’ll continue to seek additional ways to serve hardworking Texans.
