NHPO Katy Rallies behind one of its own

Local organization NHPO Katy rallies behind one of its members family in hopes of supporting the family during a difficult time. Alex Bracho of Katy, TX, while on a family vacation was bound to an Orlando hospital for over a month because 5-year-old daughter Sophy was diagnosed with FIRES: Febrile Infection-related epilepsy syndrome. This disease caused Sophy to have uncontrollable seizures and a medically induced coma was necessary. July 30th marked 2 months that Sophy has been in this coma.

While the family keeps vigil at their daughter’s bedside day and night, the Katy community has risen to the task of raising money in every way they can by the generosity of local business owners that are members of the organization NHPO Katy. A raffle that the group had at their monthly networking event in July raised $2,223.00 which was gifted to the family the day after the event.

Chairperson Leah Martinez-Ortiz has been in constant communication with Alex Bracho and Naty Bracho with updates on Sophy and what the group is planning next. A BBQ Benefit will be held on August 19th at Re/Max Experience at 1906 Avenue D. Katy, TX 77493 in Old Katy. Business Member Fermin Carrasco of It’s The Pits Cookers will donate time and effort to cook the BBQ plates, in which they will be pre-sold for $10, and sold the day of the event from 11am-4pm.

The organization will also take monetary gifts for the family, gift cards, and checks made out to Alex Bracho at the time of the event. Additional funds may be taken on the GoFundMe Page below:
