Energy Corridor to Get Farmer’s Market Starting April 1 in Grisby Square

Grand opening to feature local farm and epicurean vendors, food trucks, music, games, demonstrations and more!

Grisby Square in West Houston, one of Houston’s iconic dining and entertainment areas, will return to its agricultural roots when The Energy Corridor District celebrates the grand opening of the Energy Corridor Farmer’s Market 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at 14710 Grisby Road, just southeast of IH-10 and SH-6.

More than 20 vendors will bring locally grown veggies, fruit and artisan food to the market’s opening day. West Houston residents will be able to shop a diverse lineup of vendors at The Energy Corridor Farmer’s Market every Saturday from April 1 – June 24, and September 1 – December 2.

The grand opening will be a festive event, with Grisby Square’s Grasshopper Lane between Grisby Road and Fortsmith closed to motorists. There will be music, food trucks, games and activities from the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (TWRC) and Memorial Athletic Club.

City of Houston Council Member Greg Travis will join The Energy Corridor District’s Executive Director Clark Martinson to christen the market with remarks at 11 a.m.

During the grand opening, three picnic tables painted by students from Westside High School, Village School and District staff will be installed under the oak trees in the parking lot where the farmer’s market will take place.

“It is our mission with The Energy Corridor Farmer’s Market to provide residents and visitors of the Energy Corridor District and West Houston with access to locally grown and seasonal fresh foods,” explains Sarah McDonner, The District’s communications and outreach coordinator. “We also want to provide a community gathering place, while promoting relationships with food producers and artisans and encouraging local food production in and around the Houston area.”
