Morton Ranch Girls Bring Home a State Championship in Wrestling

The Lady Mavericks took down Euless Trinity, 86-82 to win the 6A gold at Berry Center, Saturday. The Morton Ranch girls went into the final rounds of the tournament in first place with 49 points. Its Morton Ranch’s first state title after two second place finishes.
Individually, Chelsea Sanchez was pinned by Euless Trinity’s Mack Beggs, but was a silver medal champion in the 110 pound class. April Penn, 185 pound class, defeated Arlington’s Naara Gonzales for a gold medal, and that gave enough points to put the State Championship trophy in the Morton Ranch trophy case.
In other girls’ matches, Seven Lakes’ Megan Lloyd took home gold in the 165 pound class.
For the boys, Katy High School’s Daniel Manibog (138) and Cameron Barnes (220) brought home gold. As a team, the Tigers finished fourth with 63 points. Allen won the boys’ 6A crown with a score of 264.5 points.
