Rescue Rebuild, to help Special Pals

Big improvements are underway at a local Houston pet adoption shelter and the media are invited to stop by and check out the progress and spread the word to potential volunteers. Approximately 15 Rescue Rebuild volunteers and staff have flown in from across the country to make the Houston Special Pals shelter project a reality.

·         Houston-headquartered Rescue Bank is partnering with its sister program, Rescue Rebuild, to help Special Pals at 3830 Greenhouse Road in West Houston with an $80,000 renovation project.

·         The build began on Dec 30, 2016 and will be completed January 14, 2017. Volunteers are on duty daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Rescue Rebuild team is building four new Dog Retreat spaces that are designed to get dogs out of the noisy, stressful shelter environment and give them time in a more home-like setting.  As the shelter’s dogs rotate through the Dog Retreat, they will be treated to a living room setting complete with heating and cooling, a couch of their own, a personal play yard and toys. These 120 square foot spaces will also be used by potential adopters to spend quality time with the pets outside of the kennel area.

The volunteers are also building a new 300 square foot cat colony building to get the shelter’s cats out of the cages they currently live in and allow them room to roam.  Rescue Rebuild’s Catty Shacks also have an outdoor Catio space so the kitties can get all the fresh air and sunlight they wish. The Catty Shacks not only lower the animals stress making them more adoptable, they also give potential adopters the ability to play with the pets to make sure they are a great fit for their home and family.

Rescue Rebuild’s mission is to rebuild, repair, renovate animal shelters and rescues in need. Check out their Facebook page or www.rescuerebuild.org.
