Houston’s economy added 38,700 jobs in October and the not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for October dropped to 7.7-percent from 9.6-percent in September, according to data released this morning by Workforce Solutions. The statewide unemployment rate also improved to 6.9-percent from September’s 8.3-percent, aligning the state’s rate with the national unemployment rate of 6.9-percent. The Houston region’s September not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate rose to 9.6 percent from 8.1 percent in August, according to data released this morning by Workforce Solutions. The statewide unemployment rate also rose from 7.0 percent to 8.3 percent while nationally the rate fell from 8.5 percent to 7.7 percent resulting in an unforeseen divergence from recent national trends.
