FULSHEAR BRANCH LIBRARY HOSTS SUMMER FAMILY MOVIE SERIES

The Youth Services department at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Fulshear Branch Library will feature a free “Saturday Morning Movie Throwback” series for families with kids of all ages in June and July. The movies will begin at 10:15 am, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 6350 GM Library Road, off Texas Heritage Parkway, north of FM 1092.

The June schedule of film showings is as follows:

June 7 – Today’s special feature is an animated remake of a traditional French fairy tale about a girl named Belle, who is dissatisfied with life in a small village. When her father angers a beast living in an enchanted castle, Belle accepts the punishment set on her father and goes to live in the castle in his place. The “beast” is actually a prince who was placed under a spell and magically transformed into a hideous monster because of his selfishness. Belle soon comes to see the charm and gentleness beneath the beastly appearance of her captor, and her selfless love breaks the spell. This film is rated G.

June 14 – Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of a young orphan who becomes involved with pirate Long John Silver, this family adventure film stars Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and various other characters from the Jim Henson crew. The familiar adventure plot stays loyal to the original storyline, but the well-known puppets add their own good-natured, winking sense of humor that will undoubtedly delight younger audiences. This movie is rated G.

June 21 – In this 1993 classic family movie, three pets – a wise old dog named Shadow, a young excitable dog named Chance, and a snobby feline named Sassy – escape from a California ranch and embark on a dangerous quest to find their owners. The pets must work together to survive the elements and find their way home. Rated G.

June 28 — This animated 1985 Disney film is a supernatural tale of a young warrior battling an evil ruler. Adapted from the five novels in Lloyd Alexander’s “The Chronicles of Prydain” series, the film was Disney’s first PG-rated cartoon.

The movies are free and open to the public. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library.
