Katie Rigby leads American Heart Association Northwest Harris County Heart Walk

Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death in Northwest Harris county, and Katie Rigby, Chief Human Resource officer at First Community Credit Union (FCCU), is determined to make a difference. Partnering with the American Heart Association (AHA), a global advocate for healthier lives, Rigby will take the helm as chair for the 2023-2024 Northwest Harris County Heart Walk on October 28th. This Community campaign aims to rally local companies, corporations, and the community to unite against heart disease and stroke.

As a passionate advocate for employee well-being, Rigby emphasizes the importance of fostering engagement and awareness regarding cardiovascular disease and stroke risk. She firmly believes that empowering the workforce with health knowledge is essential for overall well-being and productivity. Rigby envisions a healthier, more resilient community built on knowledge and support, offering others the same opportunity her daughter, Emory, had, who was born with a congenital heart defect.

In her role as chair of the 2023-2024 Heart Walk, Katie Rigby is committed to engaging and educating like-minded individuals about the risks associated with cardiovascular disease and stroke. Her ultimate goal is to cultivate a healthier community, where the knowledge gained from this campaign will lead to proactive health choices and healthier lives for all.

“We are incredibly grateful for our “Life is Why” Supporter, First Community Credit Union, and chair Katie Rigby, who is stepping up to move the needle when it comes to heart disease and stroke. It is imperative that we continue to partner with companies like FCCU to ensure we are not only fighting for children like ours, but for our community as a whole,” said Kayla Griffin, AHA Development Director, Northwest Harris County. “Through this year’s various Heart Challenge initiatives, we will be able to drive and leverage maximum impact through our local community engagement. Together, we can save lives right here in Northwest Harris County.”
