Sugar Land, TX – Fort Bend Christian Academy Track & Field had another record breaking, monumental season, which culminated this past weekend with a TAPPS 5A State Championship for the girls and boys team. This marks the third State Championship win for girls track in school history and the first ever State Championship win for the boys. The point totals were 138 points for the girls team and 120 points for the boys team.
A relay trifecta, the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 girls relay teams won gold in each event, an amazing accomplishment. The 4×100 relay team set a new TAPPS State Record with a time of 47.43. For the second year in a row, sophomore Bayleigh Minor was awarded ‘Athlete of the Meet’ (MVP) with four gold medals. She won the 200 Meters, 400 Meters, Triple Jump and was a member of the 4×100 Relay. Bayleigh also set a new TAPPS State Record and new School Record in the Triple Jump (38’3”). Junior Gabrielle Washington was runner-up in the 200 Meters. For the boys team, the boys 4×100 relay team also won gold. Senior Bryan Domino set a new TAPPS State Record and new School Record in the Long Jump (23’ 3.25”). Senior Matthew Brown was runner-up in the 100m dash and set a new School Record (10.52). Junior Ivan Jimmy-Ducksworth also set a new School Record for the shot put (51’ 0.25”).
“I am very proud of the way our athletes competed at state. We started the season off with the goal of winning the State Championship for both the boys and girls. The girls came into the meet as heavy favorites, and they did not disappoint,” Head Track Coach Deon Minor said. “They put together some great performances on day one and followed them up on day two. The boys had a great day one, Ivan Jimmy Ducksworth kicked it off by finishing Runner-Up in the Shot Put, Max Granville had a great showing in the High Jump, and Bryan Domino wrapped up the day by winning the Long Jump. Everyone competed very well on Day 1.”
“We had one goal for the season and it was to win the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP,” Coach Minor said. “As a coach, I wanted to see my athletes perform at a very high level at State. I can truly say, all came to compete. It was a joy to see the athletes compete and do their best.”
