Cristie Remmel Named to WGU Texas Advisory Board

DFW Veterans Chamber of Commerce President and Founder to help advise online nonprofit university

WGU Texas has named Cristie Remmel as the newest member of the nonprofit online university’s advisory board. WGU Texas was formed in 2011 through a partnership with the state of Texas and Western Governors University to meet changing workforce needs. As a state affiliate, WGU Texas has graduated more than 25,500 in the high demand fields of teaching, healthcare, IT, and business.

Remmel is founder and president of the Dallas/Fort Worth Veterans Chamber of Commerce. She is a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a Marine FMF Corpsman (Medic) during Desert Shield/Storm. She was attached to Marine Air Wing 39 out of Camp Pendleton, CA, and deployed to Bahrain with MWSS 373. Cristie received the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Globe Anchor and 2 Stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal during her enlistment.

She will serve with eight additional WGU Texas board members consisting of educators, industry leaders, and representatives from corporations and foundations who bring their expertise and provide counsel on ways the university can meet its mission of economic development in the state.

“It’s a privilege to be able to share my perspectives and experience with the military and Veteran community to improve student outcomes,” said Remmel. “That’s why I’m excited to work alongside the folks from WGU Texas to serve their students and our state. It is my honor to become a member of the advisory board.”

After her honorable discharge from the military, Remmel earned her Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and her Master’s degree in Fine Arts. Remmel is an educator and faculty member with Entrepreneurs Institute and has served as an art therapy trainer and veteran speaker for several major corporations. As a ghost writer, her first book was a number one best seller on Amazon in 2013. She is owner of Blu Dragonfly Creative Agency.

“As a military-focused university, we’re excited to have Remmel’s viewpoint on the board with her broad military experience and service to the Veteran community,” said WGU Texas Chancellor Linda Battles. “It’s an absolute honor to welcome her to our advisory board and we look forward to her input and advice.”
