The Office of the Attorney General recognized Wayne Harpold, an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Child Support Division’s Houston office, for his commitment to Texas children. Harpold was named Assistant Attorney General of the Year for the Child Support Division’s Region 6. He was presented with the award on Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Statewide Assistant Attorneys General Virtual Conference.

“I commend Wayne for his hard work and dedication to improving the lives of Texas children and families,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Wayne represents the best, and it is attorneys like his that make this agency great. I am thankful to his for answering the call to serve the people of Texas.”

One Assistant Attorney General was selected for this honor from each of the state’s ten child support regions, along with an Assistant Attorney General from the Child Support Division headquarters in Austin. Honorees are chosen based upon recommendations from their peers and supervisors, with a focus on employees who are willing to go beyond their normal duties to serve Texas children. Each recipient demonstrates a desire to serve Texas families, help colleagues, and enhance the Attorney General’s Child Support Division.

Calvano, who joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2017, represents the State in legal actions to establish paternity between children of unmarried parents and their biological fathers. He also works to establish, enforce, and modify court orders that require parents to provide child support, medical support, and dental support.

A graduate of the South Texas College of Law, Harpold was chosen to be the region’s Assistant Attorney General of the Year for being an exemplary attorney, willing trainer, and a strong leader.

“Wayne Harpold consistently models the essential character traits of an Assistant Attorney General. His hard-work and dedication to the child support mission was unshakable, even in the most challenging circumstances. He found a way to overcome the unique challenges of this past year and consistently proved to be a dependable team player, committed to every aspect of his job,” said Region 6 Regional Director Shannon Goodman.
