Austin, Texas, January 28, 2026—Teach Plus Texas congratulates Policy Fellow and special education teacher Reagan Curran on her appointment to Gov. Greg Abbott’s Task Force on the Governance of Early Childhood Education and Care. As the panel’s K-12 public school teacher, Reagan brings essential classroom perspective to the 11-member task force, which will evaluate early childhood programs across Texas agencies and recommend improvements to support working families and school readiness.

“Reagan’s experience as an educator and teacher leader brings a practitioner perspective this task force needs,” said Teach Plus Texas Policy Director Natalie Brown. “As a Teach Plus Policy Fellow, Reagan is trained to identify policy solutions grounded in classroom reality—exactly what’s needed to strengthen early childhood education across Texas. Preparing students for tomorrow’s careers starts with our youngest learners, and the work of the task force is essential to building that foundation.”

“I’m honored to join this task force,” said Reagan Curran, a self-contained special education teacher at Hubbard Heights Elementary in Fort Worth ISD, a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist, and a first-year Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow. “In my seven years teaching students ages 3-8, I’ve seen firsthand how much stronger kids are when they’ve had quality early childhood education. Every child in Texas deserves that foundation. I’m confident that the work of the task force will help expand access for families in our state and set clear standards to ensure all programs meet the needs of young learners.”

House Bill 117, passed last summer, mandates the task force to address challenges in Texas’ early childhood education system. Reagan and her colleagues—including government officials, businesspeople, and childcare center owners and directors—will serve until September 2027.
