The following free programs will take place in person at the Maud Marks Library during August. We will be closing at 5 PM on Friday, August 29, and closed Saturday, August 30, and Monday, September 1, for the Labor Day holiday.
Book Sale
The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their August book sale on Saturday, August 23 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. There is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books and paperbacks and other hidden gems. We will also be hosting a Friends Members-Only preview on Friday, August 22 from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. All items sell for rock bottom prices.
Summer Reading Program
“Color Our World”, the 2025 Summer Reading Club is for both readers and listeners, and will run from Monday, June 2 through Saturday, August 2. There will be weekly story times and special programs for children of all ages. Readers will earn points for reading and will earn exciting prizes. The summer reading program ends August 2, and the last day to pick up prizes is Aug 11!
Teen and Tween End of Summer Craft
Come cool off and craft at the library before school starts! Grades 4th – 12th, Tuesday, August 5, 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM.
Community Volunteer Fair
Explore the many adventures that come with volunteering in your community! Join us at the library on Saturday, August 2, 10 AM to 2 PM for our annual volunteer fair. Dozens of community organizations in the Greater Katy area in need of help will be here to tell you all about what they do to make life just a little easier for the Katy community. You can find out all you need to know to assist others in need. Start your adventure in volunteering and help make our community a better place!
Puzzle Swap
Looking for some new puzzles? Come swap with us! Starting July 9, bring to the library up to two gently used puzzles in their original box with all the pieces. Receive puzzle swap tickets for the puzzles you bring. Go home with two (new) puzzles of your choice on Swap Day!
Swap Day is on Saturday, August 9, at 2 PM.
Timeless Travelers: McFadden-Ward House Historic Museum
Seniors 55+ are invited to join the Maud Marks Library’s Timeless Travelers program for a trip to visit the McFaddin–Ward House. The McFaddin-Ward House is a historic home in Beaumont built in 1905 in the Beaux-Arts Colonial Revival style. We will tour the three-story home, carriage house, and gardens. The bus departs on Tuesday, August 5.
Registration runs July 21-July 26, 2025. Timeless Travelers is a program series promoting educational and cultural enrichment for senior adults. Once a month, we will take free bus trips across southeast Texas to experience the culture and history of this great state. The only requirement is that you are old enough to attend (55+). Thanks to the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for sponsoring this series.
“Read & Rhyme Storytime” – Pre-school Storytime
This program, offered on Tuesdays at 10:15 AM provides children (ages 3-5) with early literacy skills through oral language, phonological awareness and print recognition.
Crafts and or coloring sheets will be provided for children at the end of story time. . Please note: There will be no Storytimes August 12-28.
“Patty Cake Baby Story Time” – Baby Story Time
Join us for an interactive early literacy experience for infants and their caretakers on Wednesdays at 10:15 or 11:15 AM. This program geared to 3-17 months features nursery rhymes, songs, books, and fingerplays! Please note: There will be no Storytimes August 12-28.
“Totally Toddler Time” – Toddler Storytime
Toddler Time provides a fun early literacy experience for toddlers aged 18– 35 months on Thursdays at 10:15 or 11:15 AM. Toddlers participate through songs, finger plays, shared reading, parachute fun and group activities. Please arrive 15 minutes before the program to receive a ticket which will be used to attend the program. Please note: There will be no Storytimes August 12-28.
