Scholarship supports aspiring educators and current teachers who are looking to advance their careers
AUSTIN, TX (May 1, 2025) — In honor of National Teachers Week, accredited, online Western Governors University (WGU) is celebrating the invaluable contributions of educators across the nation by announcing the WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship, valued at up to $4,000. This scholarship supports both aspiring educators and current teachers who are looking to advance their careers and make a greater impact in classrooms across the state.
WGU, the largest conferrer of education degrees in the United States*, is committed to removing barriers to higher education and expanding access to affordable, flexible degree programs. The WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship is open to new students and returning graduates enrolling in any of WGU’s 30 plus bachelor’s and master’s degree programs through the School of Education.
“Teachers play an essential role in helping students and communities thrive,” said Dr. Linda Battles, Regional Vice President, WGU South. “At WGU, we believe in the power of education to change lives—and that begins with investing in those who dedicate their careers to shaping the future. This scholarship is one way we’re supporting educators as they work toward their professional goals.”
The need for qualified educators is particularly critical in Texas, where approximately 50% of newly hired teachers lack certification and classroom experience, highlighting a significant shortage of qualified educators. WGU’s competency-based, online programs offer a flexible and affordable pathway for individuals seeking to enter or advance in the teaching profession. By providing scholarships and support, WGU aims to address teacher shortages and enhance the quality of education across the nation.
The scholarship awards $1,000 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms and is designed to make licensure and advanced education more accessible for teachers in all 50 states.
