WHAT: This week, FFA members around Texas will celebrate agriculture, leadership, and the impact of FFA during National FFA Week. While this is a nationwide tradition, it’s also an opportunity to highlight the incredible work being done by Texas FFA members to shape the future and agriculture and their communities.
As the largest state FFA Association in the country, Texas FFA plays a pivotal role in developing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and agricultural advocates. Through hands-on experiences in leadership, career development, and community service, Texas FFA members are preparing to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving agricultural industry.
National FFA Week is a time for FFA members to raise awareness about the National FFA Organization’s role in developing future leaders and the importance of agricultural education. Chapters are engaging in various activities to promote agricultural education and community involvement.
Throughout the week, Texas FFA chapters will engage in activities that promote agricultural education, leadership, and service, and help educate the general public on the impact of the agricultural field. The Texas FFA Association has introduced several initiatives for chapters to participate in including, but not limited to, Plant the Future, which encourages tree planting to support environmental stewardship, and the Elementary Coloring Contest, which fosters agricultural literacy among young students. Members can educate K-5 students about agriculture through Ag in the Classroom, a lesson plan initiative developed in partnership with Texas Farm Bureau. These programs not only strengthen Texas FFA’s commitment to leadership and service but also connect members with their local communities, reinforcing the importance of ag education at all levels.
National FFA Week always runs from Saturday to Saturday and encompasses Feb. 22, George Washington’s birthday. This year, the week kicks off on Feb. 15 and culminates on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The National FFA Board of Directors designated the weeklong tradition, which began in 1948, to recognize Washington’s legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. A group of young farmers founded FFA in 1928, and the organization has been influencing generations that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting — it involves science, business and more.
