Responses will help deliver federal assistance to individuals affected by the storm
(Houston, Texas – July 10, 2024) Workforce Solutions, the regional workforce development agency, is requesting assistance from the public to complete a damage and needs assessment related to the impact from Hurricane Beryl in the 13-county Houston-Galveston region.”It is critically important that individuals receive all necessary assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl,” said Juliet Stipeche, Director of Workforce Solutions. “We encourage everyone to complete and submit the survey as quickly as possible.” The federal threshold for assistance is approximately 800 homes with major damage or destroyed, whether they are insured or not. Once the threshold is met, additional resources will be made available – including disaster unemployment assistance.
Beryl, a category 1 hurricane, made landfall near Matagorda Bay on July 8, 2024 with 80 mile per hour winds, causing significant wind and flood damage to homes and business along the upper Texas Gulf Coast. At least seven confirmed deaths in the Houston area are being blamed on the storm.
Tuesday, President Biden issued a federal disaster declaration for 121 Texas counties affected by the storm. This disaster declaration, however, does not cover individuals that have suffered damage to their homes or other losses. In order to deliver assistance to affected individuals, the Texas Division of Emergency Management is encouraging affected residents to report storm damage through the TDEM reporting tool at https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/344d59d323fd47b3bab8e8cd60b64585?field:incident_id=24-0016%2007JUL%20Tropical%20Weather.
