WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) introduced the No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act, legislation preventing any rioter or violent protestor on college campuses convicted of a crime from having their student loans forgiven. The bill comes after widespread, antisemitic protests continue to spread on college campuses across the United States.
Upon introduction, Sen. Cruz said, “Students who have been convicted of a crime for engaging in the vicious riots on college campuses across the country should be held accountable for their actions. It’s innately un-American for taxpayers to be paying off their federal student loan debts when they have caused chaos and committed crimes on college campuses because they support Hamas terrorists.”
Sens. Cruz and Cotton were joined by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) in introducing the legislation.
Congressman Brandon Williams (New York-22) is leading companion legislation in the House.
