Nonprofit aims to meet $16 million goal to foster achievement, connection and belonging for all
HOUSTON (April 22, 2023) – The YMCA of Greater Houston is encouraging Houstonians to make a difference in the community through its “Be the Change” Annual Giving Campaign. The campaign will ensure individuals and families, regardless of age, income or background, have access to the resources and tools necessary to thrive. With the support of Houstonians, the YMCA impacts thousands across the city through life-changing community programs designed to empower youth, build healthier families and foster inclusive communities.
The YMCA made a significant impact in 2023 by serving over 380,000 Houstonians through initiatives designed to elevate the degree of connectedness, belonging and achievement experienced by Houstonians. Last year, the Y provided over 110,000 individuals with financial assistance, showcasing the organization’s commitment to providing equal access to its programs and facilities. Innovative, life-changing programs that have benefited from generous donations include Safety Around Water and Camp Cullen summer programming. Additionally, the organization has been able to expand its apartment outreach initiatives and grow its core teen programs including Youth and Government, Teen Achievers and Leaders Club.
“The Annual Giving Campaign is more than a fundraiser; it is a way for Houstonians to become changemakers and have a direct impact on their city,” said Stephen Ives, president and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston. “Our mission is to build more resilient communities through purpose-driven initiatives. We have made significant strides in enhancing youth development, breaking down barriers for those with disabilities, combatting isolation in older adults and promoting healthy lifestyles. Together, we can improve thousands of lives and build a stronger Houston.”
The needs of Houstonians are evolving, and the Y is committed to providing transformative programming to solve community problems. The Y’s $16 million goal will allow it to serve even more individuals in 2024. “Be the Change” propels the YMCA’s 10-year vision of building a stronger community, providing low-cost programs and financial assistance to those in need, developing meaningful relationships and transforming lives for the better.
As a cause-driven organization, the YMCA of Greater Houston strives to advance inclusion and belonging and bring meaningful change to the city. With support and donations, the Y can help community members thrive and advocate for their neighbors.
