(Houston, Texas) Jan. 18, 2024 – Teach For America (TFA) Houston invites education advocates, community leaders, and visionaries dedicated to shaping a brighter future for Houston-area students to gather on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, for the TFA Houston “Ignite Potential Luncheon: Spark the Moment” at the Briar Club.
The event will honor the contributions of Janet Clark, retired executive vice president and chief financial officer of Marathon Oil Corporation (2007-2013) and a tireless education advocate who consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the community. Reginald DesRoches, president of Rice University, will share his profound insights, experiences, and vision for Houston’s education landscape as the event’s keynote speaker.
“We are honored to have Janet, a true champion for Houston-area youth, and Reginald, a visionary leader in academia, headlining our ‘Ignite Potential’ Luncheon. Their commitment to shaping the future of education aligns powerfully with our vision of ensuring that one day every child receives an excellent education,” said Tiffany Cuellar Needham, executive director of TFA Houston.
Colin and Sangita Pogge are chairing this year’s “Ignite Potential” Luncheon. Deeply tied to TFA and Houston since 2005, the couple embodies the spirit of dedication to education. Colin, a former TFA Houston corps member, taught 5th grade at Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) Judson Robinson Elementary early in his career. Today, he is a well-known Houston trial attorney and sits on the TFA Houston advisory board. Sangita is a board-certified physician with Kelsey-Seybold.
“We believe in the transformative power of education and its ability to shape the future,” said Needham. “The ‘Ignite Potential Luncheon’ serves as a call to action, a moment to renew our commitment to providing every child in Houston the foundation they need to learn, lead, thrive, and create a brighter tomorrow for themselves and all of us.”
