More than 300 golfers and sponsors joined with iHeartMedia to Provide No Cost Cancer Care to Children
Houston, Texas – (December 21, 2023) – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital held its 10th Annual Houston Golf Classic in partnership with iHeartMedia on December 4, 2023, exceeding its goal and raising $435,556. The event kicked off with a spirited 9:00 a.m. shotgun start, featuring a stellar lineup of participants, including Eddie Martiny of iHeartMedia, Michael Berry of KTRH Radio, and Doug Pike of SportsTalk 790. These esteemed personalities, along with scores of teams of four, navigated the picturesque 18 holes at the Golf Club of Houston, all with the shared goal of making a positive impact in the lives of children battling cancer.
Following a day on the course, teams gathered with sponsors, St. Jude team, honored guests and tournament hosts for a luncheon program featuring testimonials by St. Jude patient Danielle’s family. The program also included a silent auction with great experiences and gifts and awards for ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Top Scorers.’ Overall, St. Jude Tournament Champions were the team of Doug Hinson, Mark Corkrean, Jeff Henderson, and Anthony Johnson of Katy Plumbing with a score of -15.
“Our Houston-based St. Jude team is very grateful for the generosity of our supporters and donors in Houston and for the partnership with iHeart,” began Angela Garza, Executive Director of the St. Jude South Texas region. “Every donation to St. Jude allows us to fulfill the vision of our Founder Danny Thomas to see that no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food so they can focus on helping their child live. Your tax-deductible gifts made by December 31st are especially appreciated this holiday season.”
Garza awarded Eddie Martiny, Marc Sherman, Doug Pike, Michael Berry, and Sylvia Jones of iHeartMedia with an award for raising more than five million dollars for St. Jude over the past 10 years. Following the tournament, iHeartMedia hosted a 2-Day St. Jude Radiothon on December 7 and 8 for its Greater Houston listeners to give which raised $588,159.
