HOUSTON, December 19, 2023 – Trees For Houston, the region’s leading tree advocate, Linde, a leading global industrial gases and engineering company, and the Arbor Day Foundation, the world’s largest member nonprofit dedicated to planting trees, partnered to plant 100 15-gallon trees during a tree-planting event at Bay Street Park in Texas City on December 9.
Linde employees and community volunteers planted the trees in a variety of native species in support of Trees For Houston’s and Texas City’s mission to provide well-maintained inclusive parks and public spaces for the community. Texas City Mayor, Charles T. “Chuck” Doyle, envisioned the development of Bay Street Park in May 1990. The park is composed of about 50 acres of land and 50 acres of freshwater lagoon.
“Our mission is much broader than tree planting. We expand awareness of the critical role that trees play in our community and the environment,” said Barry Ward, Executive Director, Trees for Houston. In addition, planting trees and reforestation help to restore at-risk ecosystems and habitats, ultimately increasing the carbon sequestration capacity of forests, benefitting wildlife habitats, and improving overall human health and well-being.
