WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement yesterday after meeting with the Honorable Yong Ho Tae, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea:
“The North Korean regime is one of the most inhumane dictatorships in the world. Those who attempt to flee and are sent back are subject to particularly horrific human rights abuses, including lifetime forced labor, torture, and execution, and having their children become victims of human trafficking. The Chinese Communist Party has restarted a policy of forced repatriation that will subject potentially thousands of people to these horrors. Reportedly, just since October 2023, hundreds of people have already been forcibly repatriated. This policy is inhumane and should be stopped immediately. If the CCP is unwilling to do what is right, those defectors deserve international protection, including the possibility of finding refuge in the Republic of Korea.”
