“We are proud of these students and their remarkable accomplishments,” said Ronnie Edwards, Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership and Support at Katy ISD. “To have 83 Katy ISD students advancing to the finalist stage of the National Merit Scholarship Program speaks to their steadfast pursuit for academic excellence,” added Edwards.

To become a finalist, students and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the semifinalist’s academic record, their participation in school and community activities, information demonstrating leadership abilities, as well as employment and any honors and awards received. Additionally, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm their performance on the qualifying test.
