National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
WHAT: The North Houston District will bring together area residents, local law enforcement, businesses, military members, and community sponsors for its 2023 National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Thomas R. Wussow Park. Several activities are planned over the course of the three-hour event, including a “friendly” tug of war competition featuring the Houston Police Department versus Harris County Sheriff’s Office, live performances, a dance competition between law enforcement agencies, a K9 Officer demonstration, and giveaways including tablets, gift cards, gaming systems and TVs near the end of the event. Other fun and family-friendly plans include:
- Free Rudy’s BBQ Sponsored by Amazon
- Harris County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, High Water Rescue Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Bomb Squad
- Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol
- Bounce houses
- Cooling center
- Costumed characters, including Chick-fil-A Cow
- DJ with dancing
- Face painting
- Photobooth
- Snacks, snow cones, and refreshments
- Train rides
WHO: Participants will include area residents, local law enforcement, businesses and community partners, and elected officials.
WHEN: Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Although National Night Out is celebrated in August in most parts of the country, it is scheduled in October in Texas to take advantage of more moderate weather.
WHERE: Thomas R. Wussow Park, 500 Greens Rd. (Near I-45 North & North Sam Houston Parkway/Beltway)
WHY: Public safety is a priority in the North Houston District. The NHD National Night Out celebration is one of the largest NNO events in Houston.
COST: The event is free and open to the public.
