WHAT: Trees For Houston and Neste provided 60 volunteers planted 85 15-gallon native trees at Shady Lane Park in Houston’s Northside, today, April 25 from 1-3 pm at Shady Lane Park, 77093, in Houston. A mix of a mix of native trees like Loblolly Pine, Shumard Oak, Sweet Gum, Bald Cypress, White Oak, and American Sycamore were planted in support of the Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s mission to provide well-maintained inclusive parks and public spaces for the community. The planting of these trees will sequester approximately 50,000 pounds of carbon dioxide in 20 years. Unlike any other in Houston, this park has playground equipment in the shape of indigenous animals and birds, like Great Blue Herons and Pine Warblers, exercise opportunities of all stripes, and almost unlimited educational possibilities.

Officials on hand:

  • Barry Ward, Executive Director, Trees For Houston
  • Miryam Llanos, Sustainability Specialist, Neste
