Katy Girls’ Basketball Team Dominating

The Katy Lady Tigers continued to dismantle foes left and right last week, pushing their basketball season record to 27-1 and 13-0 in District 19-6A.

Katy has overcome quality competition in the district with fiery Tompkins (23-7, 10-3), Cinco Ranch (24-8, 10-4) and Seven Lakes (17-13, 8-5) holding down the remaining top spots. However this year’s Lady Tigers are deep, talented, skilled and tenacious, plus they play as a total unit.

Having outscored opponents 1,545-992 for an average score of 55.2-35.4, Katy has won 21 consecutive games going into this week.

Playing four teams that are struggling in district play, the Katy girls do not hesitate to flex their scoring muscles. The scores have been decisive with 3-5 players in double figures most games.

  • They downed Morton Ranch, 54-28, on Jan. 13
  • Katy dispatched Mayde Creek, 57-32, on Jan. 17
  • The Lady Tiger dizzied the Jordan Warriors, 72-34, on Jan. 20
  • And they dismissed Paetow, 65-23, on Jan. 24, as the second round of district play nears conclusion

Lyric Barr, Brianna Nelson, Nyla Wold, Ashlynn Alexander, Ella Robinson and a deep bench separate this team from many squads with standout individuals.

The closest district contests Katy has played has involved 19-6A second-place talent Tompkins. The Katy girls rallied 15-7 in the final eight minutes to win 42-41 in their first district meeting. On Jan. 10, Tompkins trailed 28-15 at intermission and rallied 32-23 in the second half. But the Lady Tigers claimed the league win, 51-48.
